Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released in the United States on December 17 2021 and has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for “for sequences of sci-fi violence and action and brief suggestive language.”
The news of the film’s rating came as a bit of a surprise to some as the previous two Spider-Man films – Homecoming and Far From Home – were both rated PG-13. However upon further reflection it makes sense that No Way Home would receive a slightly higher rating than its predecessors.
The first reason why No Way Home is likely to be more intense than the previous two Spider-Man films is because it will feature multiple Spider-Men. In the film Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be joined by both Andrew Garfield’s and Tobey Maguire’s versions of the character as they team up to take on a new threat.
With three different Spider-Men on the screen at the same time there is bound to be more action and more fighting than what we’ve seen before. And with three times the action comes three times the violence.
Another reason why No Way Home is likely to be more intense than the previous two films is because it will be the final film in the Spider-Man trilogy. This means that all of the loose ends from the first two films will need to be tied up and that could lead to some pretty intense scenes.
Finally No Way Home is also likely to be more intense because it will be released in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The film was originally supposed to be released in July 2021 but was pushed back to December due to the pandemic.
Given the current state of the world it’s likely that the film will address the pandemic in some way shape or form. Whether it’s a character contracting the virus or simply references to the current state of the world No Way Home is sure to be a more mature and intense film than its predecessors.
