Frog Follies is an annual event held in early spring in the small town of Dyersburg Tennessee. The event features a parade a carnival live music and a frog-jumping contest. The event attracts visitors from all over the United States and has been featured in magazines and on television.
The first Frog Follies was held in April of 1955 and was started by a group of locals who wanted to have a celebration to welcome the start of spring. The event has been held annually ever since with the exception of a few years during the 1960s when it was cancelled due to poor weather.
The frog-jumping contest is the main attraction of Frog Follies. The contest is open to anyone who wants to compete and the frogs are provided by the event organizers. The frog that jumps the furthest wins the contest and the prize money. In recent years the prize money has been increased to $5000 making it one of the most lucrative frog-jumping contests in the world.
Frog Follies is held the first weekend in April every year. The parade is held on Saturday morning and the carnival and live music are held on Saturday afternoon and evening.
