The Ring is a 2002 American supernatural horror film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Naomi Watts Martin Henderson David Dorfman Brian Cox and Daveigh Chase. The film is a remake of the 1998 Japanese horror film Ring based on the novel by Koji Suzuki. Watts plays a journalist who investigates a cursed videotape that kills whoever watches it after seven days.
The Ring was released theatrically on October 18 2002 and received mixed reviews from critics. However many praised the film’s atmosphere visuals and acting. It grossed over $249 million worldwide making it one of the highest-grossing horror remakes of all time.
The film was followed by two sequels The Ring Two (2005) and Rings (2017). A television adaptation of the original novel also titled The Ring aired on Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom in 2013.
