According to the Guinness World Records the longest snake in captivity is Medusa a Reticulated python which measures 25.2 ft (7.67 m) in length as of 2011. Python reticulatus is a species of python found in Southeast Asia. They are the world’s longest snakes and largest reptiles.
The majority of reticulated pythons grow to between 6 and 8 ft (1.8 and 2.4 m) long. Females average slightly longer than males. Some specimens of this species reach lengths much greater. A captive individual in Kansas City Missouri called “Donna” reportedly measured 27 ft 11 in (8.5 m) in 2001. As of 2011 the longest captive snake in the world according to the Guinness World Records was a reticulated python named “Medusa” that lived in Kansas City Missouri. Medusa was 24.87 ft (7.58 m) long when last measured on October 12 2011.
The record for the longest snake ever captured in the wild is held by a reticulated python found in Sulawesi Indonesia which measured 32 ft 8 in (9.75 m).
Reticulated pythons are some of the longest-lived snakes in captivity with many individuals exceeding 20 years of age. The oldest known captive individual a female named “Grandma” died at the age of 48 years.
