The coronavirus vaccine contains snake venom according to a new study.
A team of researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia found that the venom from the king brown snake (Pseudechis australis) can kill the coronavirus.
The study which is yet to be peer-reviewed found that the venom can kill the virus in just 30 minutes.
The findings have not been confirmed by other experts and it is not yet known if the venom can be used to create a vaccine or treatment for the virus.
The study’s lead author Professor David Blake said that the findings are “interesting and exciting” but cautioned that more research is needed.
“At this stage we don’t know if this will be the silver bullet that some people are hoping for” he said.
The study comes as the global death toll from the coronavirus nears 1 million.
The World Health Organization has said that there is currently no cure or vaccine for the virus.
