Have you ever seen an ant and thought to yourself “I wonder why they keep coming back after I kill them?” Well you’re not alone. Many people have asked this question and there are a few possible explanations.
One possibility is that the ant you killed was not actually the queen. The queen is the only ant in the colony that can produce eggs so she is the most important member of the colony. If you kill a worker ant or a soldier ant the colony will simply replace them. However if you kill the queen the colony will eventually die out.
Another possibility is that the ant you killed was not the only ant in the colony. There could be multiple queens or there could be thousands of worker ants and soldiers. Even if you kill 99% of the ants in a colony the remaining 1% can rebuild the colony.
Finally it is also possible that the ant you killed was part of a different colony. If there are multiple colonies in your area the ants you kill could be from a different colony than the one you’re trying to get rid of. Killing a few ants is not going to get rid of an entire colony.
So why do ants keep coming back after you kill them? There could be a number of reasons but the most likely explanation is that you’re not actually killing the queen. If you want to get rid of an ant colony you need to find the queen and kill her. Otherwise the colony will just keep replacing the ants you kill.
