The Walt Disney Company has announced that Donald Glover will play Simba in the upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King.
Glover who is best known for his role as Earnest “Earn” Marks on the FX series Atlanta will voice the adult Simba in the film.
The film which is being directed by Jon Favreau is set to be released in 2019.
This will be the second live-action remake of a Disney animated classic that Glover has starred in after he played the young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The announcement was made on Twitter by The Lion King’s official account.

The original Lion King which was released in 1994 is one of the most successful animated films of all time.
The film grossed over $968 million at the box office and won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight”).
The live-action remake of The Lion King is just one of many upcoming Disney films that are based on animated classics.
Other films in the works include live-action remakes of Dumbo Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.
