Nala is a fictional character who appears in Disney’s The Lion King franchise. Introduced in the animated film The Lion King (1994) she is the childhood best friend and later love interest of the protagonist Simba. Nala is voiced by Moira Kelly in the film’s sequels The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998) and The Lion King 1½ (2004). In these appearances she becomes Simba’s wife and queen of the Pride Lands.

Nala is first seen as a young cub in The Lion King where she is introduced as Simba’s best friend and future betrothed. As cubs Nala and Simba regularly play together until Simba’s father Mufasa tells them to stop and take a nap. Nala next appears as an adult in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride where she has become the leader of the pride in Simba’s absence. She first appears leading a group of lionesses to hunt a group of antelope. The hunt is successful and Nala is seen to be a skilled hunter.
Later Nala comes across a wounded Simba and despite her initial anger towards him she helps him back to his feet and leads him back to the Pride Lands. After Simba defeats his uncle Scar and takes his place as king he and Nala are married.
In The Lion King 1½ Nala is shown to be a good friend to Simba’s father Mufasa. She is also shown to be a good friend to Timon and Pumbaa who teach Simba the “Hakuna Matata” lifestyle.
Nala is a kind wise and confident lioness. She is a loyal friend to Simba and is always willing to help him even when he doesn’t want her to. Nala is also a skilled hunter as she is seen leading a successful hunt in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.
