Simba is the main character in Disney’s 1994 film The Lion King. He is voiced by Matthew Broderick as an adult. Simba is the son of Mufasa the king of the Pride Lands and Sarabi. He is also the grandson of Ahadi and Uru. As a cub he is voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Simba is born in Pride Rock destined to become king of the Pride Lands.
Mufasa shows Simba the Pride Lands and teaches him about the Circle of Life the lifeblood of all living things. When Simba is a teenager he is tricked by his evil uncle Scar into thinking he is responsible for Mufasa’s death. Scar convinces Simba to flee the Pride Lands leaving his father’s carcass to be devoured by the hyenas.
Simba grows up in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa a meerkat and a warthog. He learns that he can laugh and have fun without having to worry about the serious business of being king. However he is eventually convinced by Rafiki a wise baboon that he must return to the Pride Lands and take his rightful place as king.
Simba defeats Scar in a climactic battle and takes his place as king of the Pride Lands. He marries his childhood friend Nala and has two children Kiara and Kion. As king Simba strives to keep the Circle of Life in balance.
The character of Simba was inspired by the Biblical figure Samson.
