On July 6th it was announced that Fox News anchor Shep Smith would be leaving the network. This was a huge surprise to many as Smith had been with Fox News since it launched in 1996.
So who is Shep Smith and why did he leave Fox News?
Shepard Smith or Shep as he is commonly known was born in Mississippi in 1964. He started his career in television at a local station in his home state before moving on to work for Fox News in 1996.
Shep quickly established himself as a key member of the Fox News team and became known for his hard-hitting interviews with major political figures. He also gained a reputation for being one of the few Fox News anchors who was willing to criticize President Donald Trump.
In recent years Shep had become increasingly frustrated with the direction of Fox News and the network’s unwillingness to hold President Trump accountable. This came to a head in October 2018 when Shep had a very public on-air argument with fellow Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson.
After this argument it was clear that Shep was no longer happy at Fox News and rumors began to circulate that he was planning to leave the network.
On July 6th it was finally announced that Shep was leaving Fox News. In a statement Shep said that he was “grateful for the opportunities” that Fox News had given him but that it was time for him to “move on to a new phase” in his career.
So what’s next for Shep? It’s not yet known where he will go next but it’s clear that he is no longer happy at Fox News.
Only time will tell what Shep will do next but one thing is for sure – he will be missed at Fox News.
