The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 American animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 49th Disney animated feature film the film is loosely based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “The Frog Prince”.
Set in New Orleans’ French Quarter during the Jazz Age the story follows a young waitress named Tiana who dreams of owning her own restaurant. When she meets a frog prince who has been turned into an amphibian by an evil voodoo sorcerer she agrees to kiss him in hopes of breaking the curse. Tiana becomes a frog herself as a result and she and the prince must find a way to turn themselves back into humans before it’s too late.
The Princess and the Frog was released to critical acclaim and was commercially successful grossing $267 million worldwide. It received three Academy Award nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards winning one for Best Original Song for “Down in New Orleans”.
