In July 2016 it was announced that Fox News Channel personality Gretchen Carlson would not be returning to the network. The news came as a surprise to many as Carlson had been with Fox News since its launch in 1996.
However in the months since Carlson’s departure a number of other high-profile names have also left Fox News. In September 2016 it was announced that both Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren would be leaving the network.
Kelly who had been with Fox News since 2004 decided to leave for NBC News. She will be hosting a new daytime show for NBC as well as anchoring a Sunday night news program. Van Susteren who had been with Fox News since 2002 left the network for MSNBC.
In October 2016 Fox News Channel announced that Bill O’Reilly would be leaving the network. O’Reilly who had been with Fox News since its launch was the network’s highest-rated personality. His departure came amid sexual harassment allegations.
More recently in January 2017 it was announced that Fox News host Andrea Tantaros was suing the network for sexual harassment. Tantaros who had been with Fox News since 2010 claimed that she was subjected to sexual harassment by a number of senior executives at the network.
It appears that the departures of Carlson Kelly Van Susteren O’Reilly and Tantaros are part of a wider problem at Fox News. The network has been plagued by a number of sexual harassment scandals in recent years and it seems that many women are no longer willing to tolerate the hostile working environment.
