The world’s oldest monkey a macaque named Imo has died at the age of 62.
Imo was born in Japan in 1956 and was brought to the United States in 1966 as part of a research project. She has lived at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) ever since.
Imo was one of the first monkeys to be used in research on the aging process. Over the years she participated in numerous studies on everything from diet and exercise to cognitive function and menopause.
In her later years Imo became something of a celebrity appearing in commercials and on television shows. She even had a book published about her life.
