While exploring the professor’s large house the children discover a wardrobe which leads to the magical land of Narnia. Narnia is a land that is perpetually in winter due to the evil White Witch who has placed a curse on the land. The children learn that they are part of a prophecy that says that four humans will come to Narnia and sit on thrones at Cair Paravel and that they are the ones who are destined to fulfill this prophecy.
With the help of Aslan the great lion and ruler of Narnia the children defeat the White Witch and help break her curse on Narnia. The story ends with the children being crowned as the rulers of Narnia and they rule for many years before returning to our world.
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe has been adapted for film and television several times. The most recent adaptation was released in 2005 and was directed by Andrew Adamson. It starred Tilda Swinton as the White Witch James McAvoy as Mr. Tumnus and Georgie Henley as Lucy.
The film was shot in New Zealand and many of the locations used in the film are still there and can be visited today. Some of the most notable filming locations are as follows:
-Thegladeand the wardrobe room were both filmed at the Pinewood Studios in England.
-Many of the exteriors for the Professor’s house were filmed at the Harcourt Estate in Oxfordshire England.
-The forest where Lucy first meets Mr. Tumnus was filmed in the beech forests of Dannevirke New Zealand.
-The stone table scene was filmed at the park of Fort William Scotland.
-The battle scene near the end of the film was shot in Queenstown New Zealand.
