The Fox Theatre was built in 1929 and was originally a movie palace. It was designed by Atlanta architect C.W. Dobbins and was inspired by the Palace of Westminster in London and the Mosque of Cordoba in Spain. The Fox was the largest movie palace in the southeastern United States and could accommodate up to 4000 people.
The Fox Theatre was closed in 1974 and was almost demolished in the late 1970s. However it was saved by a group of preservationists and restored to its original glory.
