According to Walt Disney Studios the remake of The Lion King is set to be released on July 19 2019. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba Beyoncé as Nala James Earl Jones as Mufasa Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar John Oliver as Zazu Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.
The original animated classic follows the story of Simba a young lion who is heir to the Pride Lands. After the untimely death of his father Mufasa Simba is tricked by his uncle Scar into thinking he was responsible and flees into exile. With the help of new friends Timon and Pumbaa Simba must learn to accept his destiny and take his place as the rightful king.
The live-action remake will be directed by Jon Favreau who also helmed the 2016 blockbuster remake of The Jungle Book. The film will be entirely shot in virtual reality a first for a major motion picture.
“We are exploring groundbreaking techniques in animating photorealistic environments and characters” said Favreau in a statement. “The Lion King builds on the innovations we created for The Jungle Book to bring audiences a new level of immersion into an enchanting world that is more realistic than anything ever seen before on the big screen.”
