Walt Disney Pictures has announced that The Lion King will return to theaters for a special engagement starting September 4th 2019. The ground-breaking film will be shown in select theaters in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.
The Lion King was originally released on June 15th 1994. The film was a instant classic becoming the highest-grossing film of the year. The film tells the story of Simba a young lion who must take on the responsibility of leading his pride after the death of his father Mufasa.
The film features an all-star voice cast including Matthew Broderick James Earl Jones Whoopi Goldberg and Nathan Lane. The film was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff and produced by Don Hahn.
The Lion King was the first Disney film to be released on Blu-ray and was released on Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD in 2011. The film was released on Digital HD in 2016.
Now The Lion King will return to theaters for a special engagement starting September 4th 2019. The film will be shown in select theaters around the country.
