The wait is finally over! After much speculation and anticipation Disney has finally announced that the fan-favorite Festival of the Lion King will be making its grand return to Animal Kingdom this summer.
The live show was last seen at the park back in 2014 before it was closed for a lengthy refurbishment. It was originally slated to reopen in early 2017 but due to construction delays the reopening was pushed back.
Now after over two years away the Festival of the Lion King will finally be back and better than ever. The show will reopen on June 22 2019 just in time for the park’s 25th anniversary celebration.
The news was announced today via the Disney Parks Blog. In addition to the show’s return date Disney also released a brand new trailer for the show which you can check out below.
The all-new Festival of the Lion King will feature updated puppetry new costumes and an all-new story while still staying true to the classic story and songs that fans know and love.
In addition the new show will now be presented in the round giving guests a 360-degree view of the stage and the action. This will be a first for any live show at Walt Disney World.
The Festival of the Lion King is just one of the many things to look forward to at Animal Kingdom this summer. The park will also be debuting a brand new nighttime show “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” which will be similar to the popular “ Rivers of Light” show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
