The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has announced the dates for the upcoming youth deer and turkey hunting seasons. The youth deer season will run from October 31- November 3 2019. The four-day season is open to resident and non-resident hunters ages 6-15. All hunters must be accompanied by a mentor 18 years of age or older who is not eligible to hunt during the season.
Youth deer and turkey hunters can use any legal deer or turkey hunting method during the seasons. MDC reminds hunters that all deer and turkey harvested during the youth season count toward the hunter’s annual limit.
A special two-day antlerless deer season for youth and mentors will occur on November 16-17 2019. This season is open to resident and non-resident hunters ages 6-15 accompanied by a mentor. Only antlerless deer may be harvested during this season.
The first day of the November portion of the regular fall deer and turkey season is November 18 2019.
MDC offered the following tips for a successful youth deer hunting season:
• Plan and scout ahead. Knowing where deer are likely to be makes for a more enjoyable and successful hunt.
• Practice with your firearm or bow before heading out. Be sure you can accurately shoot your chosen firearm or bow at various distances.
• Get a Missouri hunting permit and complete the mandatory Hunter Education Course if you have not already done so.
• Check the Missouri Hunting Guidebook for information on deer seasons permits and methods of taking deer.
• Dress for success. Wearing the proper clothing and footwear helps keep you comfortable and dry.
• Be prepared for inclement weather. Missouri weather can change quickly so be sure to pack extra clothing and supplies in case you get stranded.
• Stay safe. Wear hunter orange and be aware of your surroundings and the location of other hunters at all times.
