On October 12 2012 Neil the lion died peacefully in his sleep at the ripe old age of 20. Neil was born in 1992 in the African nation of Zimbabwe. He was captured by hunters and sold to a circus in Germany where he spent the next 10 years of his life. In 2002 he was brought to the United States by animal trainers who worked with him on various television commercials and films.
Neil first gained international notoriety in 2004 when he was featured in the blockbuster film “The Lion King.” In the movie Neil played the role of “Simba” the lion cub who becomes king of the Pride Lands. Though his performance was praised by critics Neil’s time in the spotlight was ultimately cut short when he was killed off in the sequel “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride.”
After his death Neil was cremated and his ashes were scattered in the African savanna where he had first lived.
