The supermarket chain Food Lion has announced that it will be closing all of its stores at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
This is earlier than many other grocery stores which will typically stay open until midnight or later on Christmas Eve. However it is still later than some stores such as Walmart which will be closing at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Food Lion said that the earlier closing time is to allow its employees to spend time with their families on Christmas Eve.
“We know that the holidays are a special time for our associates and their families and we want to make sure they have the opportunity to spend quality time together” said Food Lion President Meg Ham in a statement.
“We are grateful for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and are pleased to give them this time to enjoy the holidays with loved ones.”
Food Lion has more than 1000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
