According to the United States Department of Agriculture foxes can be found in every state in America except for Hawaii. In terms of preferred habitat foxes tend to prefer woods forests and mountain areas – but they can also be found in more urbanized settings such as cities and suburbs.
In terms of their diet foxes are mostly carnivorous and prefer to eat small mammals such as rodents rabbits and birds. They will also eat fruits and vegetables and are known to eat acorns in the fall. Foxes will also scavenge for food and are not above raiding garbage cans in search of a meal.
In terms of their behavior foxes are generally nocturnal animals but can be active during the day. They are also known to be solitary creatures although they will sometimes form pairs or small family groups. Foxes are known to be very cunning and resourceful and have been known to outwit much larger predators such as wolves.
