Many people have questioned what parts of Black Swan were real. The director Darren Aronofsky has said that the film is “a psychodrama about a ballerina losing her mind” and that it is not meant to be a realistic portrayal of the ballet world.

The film also features real ballet moves and techniques and the cast worked with a real ballet choreographer to make sure they were accurate.
