Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is the sequel to the 2015 film Ant-Man and the twentieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Peyton Reed with a script by the writing teams of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and Paul Rudd Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. In Ant-Man and the Wasp Scott Lang must balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man when Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past.
The film was announced in October 2014 with Reed returning from the first film. Rudd and Evangeline Lilly also confirmed their returns while Michael Douglas was revealed to be reprising his role as Hank Pym. McKay and Rudd began working on the script in early 2017 which was confirmed to take place in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War. Filming began that August in Atlanta Georgia and continued in San Francisco California before concluding in January 2018.
Visual effects were provided by a number of companies including Industrial Light & Magic who returned from the first film. Ant-Man and the Wasp was released in the United States on July 6 2018 in RealD 3D and IMAX. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics who praised its humor and cast particularly Lilly and Rudd and grossed over $622 million worldwide.
A sequel Ant-Man 3 is scheduled to be released on May 7 2022.
