Michael J. Fox is a Canadian actor comedian author film producer and activist. He is best known for his roles as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy and Alex P. Keaton on the American television sitcom Family Ties. His film roles have included Teen Wolf The Frighteners Stuart Little and The Secret of My Succe$s.
In recent years Fox has increasingly spoken out about his battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was diagnosed with the condition in 1991 at the age of 29 and publically announced his diagnosis in 1998. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is the largest non-profit funder of Parkinson’s research in the world.
In an interview with 60 Minutes in 2018 Fox spoke about how his battle with Parkinson’s has progressed. “The symptoms are different every day. Some days are better than others but the disease is progressive so it’s going to continue to get worse” Fox said.
While there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease there are treatments available that can help manage the symptoms. However as the disease progresses the symptoms will become more severe and will eventually impact Fox’s ability to work.
In the meantime Fox remains positive and continues to work on new projects. “I’m doing OK. I’ve got a great wife great kids great friends. I’m working. I’m lucky” Fox said in the 60 Minutes interview.
