Toy Story is a 1995 American computer-animated buddy comedy film directed by John Lasseter and written by Joss Whedon Andrew Stanton Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow from a story by Lasseter Pete Docter Stanton and Joe Ranft. The film features music by Randy Newman and was produced by Ralph Guggenheim and Bonnie Arnold through Walt Disney Pictures. Its executive producers were John Lasseter Pete Docter Andrew Stanton and Lawrence Levy. The film stars Tom Hanks as the voice of Woody a pull-string cowboy doll and Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear a spaceman action figure. The film’s supporting cast includes Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head Jim Varney as Slinky Dog Wallace Shawn as Rex John Ratzenberger as Hamm Annie Potts as Bo Peep R. Lee Ermey as Sarge and John Morris as Andy Davis.
The film was released on November 22 1995 and paired with the short film Pixar’s Toy Story That Time Forgot on its home video releases. The film was the first feature-length film to be entirely computer-animated as well as the first feature film from Pixar. It was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay ultimately winning the Oscar for Best Original Song for “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. Toy Story was inducted into the National Film Registry as being “culturally historically or aesthetically significant” in 2005 its first year of eligibility.
