Teal Swan (born as Teal Griffith) is an American author public speaker YouTuber and self-proclaimed ” spiritual guide .” Swan is known for her controversial spiritual beliefs which she promotes through her writing social media and public appearances. Swan was born in Santa Fe New Mexico and raised in a strict fundamentalist Mormon family. She began having suicidal thoughts at age 12 and made her first attempt at age 13. She was later diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) which she has openly discussed in her work.

In 2012 Swan’s life took a dramatic turn when she was involved in a near-fatal car accident. She claims to have died for six minutes and had a “near-death experience” (NDE) during which she says she saw the “true nature of reality .”

She has been accused of being a “cult leader” and of promoting “dangerous” and “irresponsible” beliefs.
