Fox Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) are cable television networks that are owned & operated by Fox Corporation and operate as affiliate networks of Fox Sports Networks. Most of the Fox RSNs were originally owned by 21st Century Fox and were acquired by The Walt Disney Company as part of the latter’s acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox’s assets in 2019.
The first Fox-branded RSN launched in 1996 when Fox Sports Net (now Fox Sports Networks) launched Fox Sports Arizona. The network originally served as a regional affiliate of Fox Sports Net but became an independent network in 2002. In 2006 21st Century Fox (then News Corporation) acquired several regional sports networks from Comcast which included Fox Sports Detroit Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Ohio. These RSNs were integrated into the Fox Sports Networks group and rebranded as Fox Sports Detroit Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Ohio.
In November 2012 News Corporation spun off its entertainment assets into a new company called 21st Century Fox. As part of the spin-off the Fox Regional Sports Networks were transferred to 21st Century Fox. In March 2019 The Walt Disney Company announced that it would acquire most of 21st Century Fox including the Fox Regional Sports Networks. The acquisition was completed on March 20 2019.
