The popular television show “Gas Monkey Garage” first aired in 2012. The show followed the day-to-day workings of a professional hot rod shop. The shop was owned by Richard Rawlings and was located in Dallas Texas.
The show was a huge success and helped to put the Dallas hot rod scene on the map. The shop and its crew became famous for their hard work and dedication to building high-quality hot rods.
However in 2016 things started to unravel for the Gas Monkey Garage crew. The first sign of trouble came when one of the crew members Aaron Kaufman announced that he was leaving the show. Kaufman had been with the shop since the very beginning and was one of the most skilled and talented members of the team.
His departure sent shockwaves through the hot rodding community and left many wondering what would happen to the show.
Unfortunately things only got worse from there. In 2017 another crew member Austin Meeks was let go from the show. Meeks had been with the shop for several years and was a key member of the team.
Then in 2018 the shop’s foreman Texas Dave was also let go from the show. Dave had been with the shop for many years and was one of the most experienced and knowledgeable members of the team.
These departures left the Gas Monkey Garage crew severely depleted of talent and experience.
As a result the quality of the show began to decline. The once great hot rodding shop was now just a shadow of its former self.
In 2019 the final nail in the coffin came when Richard Rawlings sold the Gas Monkey Garage to the Discovery Channel. The Discovery Channel then proceeded to cancel the show.
And that’s what happened to the Gas Monkey Garage crew. A once great hot rodding shop that was brought down by a combination of bad luck and bad decisions.
