The end of Ant-Man and the Wasp is a pretty big deal. Not only does it set up the events of Avengers: Infinity War but it also features one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the entire MCU.
Basically the movie ends with Thanos finally acquiring the Infinity Stones and Snap-ing half of the universe out of existence including Ant-Man the Wasp and Hope van Dyne. The scene is absolutely devastating and has left many fans wondering what exactly happened to our heroes.
Thankfully we have some answers. In an interview with Collider directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed a few details about the scene and what happened to our fallen heroes.
First of all the Russos clarified that Ant-Man and the Wasp do indeed die in the Snap. They also revealed that Scott Lang was able to send a final message to Hope before he disappeared which helped her deal with the loss.
“In terms of their fates we can confirm that Scott Hope and Janet all die” Joe Russo said. “It’s a brutal scene and I think it’s a credit to Peyton that he was able to get such performances out of our actors on their way out.”
“It’s one of the more personal losses in the film because Scott and Hope in particular have such a close relationship” Anthony Russo added. “I think that’s what makes Janet’s loss and consequently Scott and Hope’s loss so painful.”
So there you have it. Ant-Man and the Wasp may be gone but they certainly haven’t been forgotten. Rest in peace heroes.
