A food chain is a linear network of links in a food web starting from producer organisms (such as plant and animal) to predator organisms which eat other organisms. The term food web is used to describe the feeding relationships between all the organisms in an ecosystem.
A food chain almost always begins with a green plant because plants can make their own food from sunlight (photosynthesis). The next link in the chain is an herbivore an animal that eats only plants. The next link is a carnivore an animal that eats other animals. The last link in the chain is a decomposer an organism that breaks down dead animals and plants and returns the nutrients to the soil.
Frogs are found in many different habitats all over the world. They are often near the top of the food chain in their ecosystem because they are predators. Frogs eat insects small mammals and even other frogs.
