In a recent Saturday Night Live sketch a reporter (played by Cecily Strong) tries to get to the bottom of a very important question: what does the fox say? But no matter how hard she tries she just can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone.
The sketch starts with the reporter interviewing a man (played by Taran Killam) who claims to have seen a fox. When she asks him what the fox said he immediately starts making up an answer. “The fox says ‘meow’!” he says.
The reporter is then shown interviewing a woman (played by Vanessa Bayer) who also claims to have seen a fox. But when she’s asked what it said she again makes up an answer. “The fox says ‘woof’!” she says.
The reporter is then shown interviewing a little boy (played by Mikey Day) who also claims to have seen a fox. But when she’s asked what it said he tells her that the fox didn’t say anything.
At this point the reporter is starting to get frustrated. She’s been trying to get a straight answer from people all day and she’s just not having any luck.
Finally she comes across a man (played by Kenan Thompson) who seems to be an expert on foxes. When she asks him what the fox says he gives her a very detailed answer. “The fox says ‘ring-ding-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!'” he says.
The reporter is finally able to get the answer she’s been looking for. But when she asks the man where he got his information he tells her that he just made it up.
The sketch ends with the reporter getting one last chance to ask a fox what it says. But when she does the fox just looks at her and says “I’m not gonna answer that.”
