Chris Wallace the host of Fox News Sunday had some harsh words for his own network during an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation.
“I think Fox has done a real disservice to the country” Wallace said. “I think they’ve been operating as kind of a wing of the Republican Party.”
Wallace went on to say that Fox News has “allowed [Trump] to get away” with lies and false statements.
“I think that is a real problem for the country and I think that Fox will have to reckon with that at some point” Wallace said.
These comments come as Fox News is facing increasing scrutiny for its role in promoting right-wing conspiracy theories and misinformation. For years Fox News has been one of the most trusted sources of information for conservatives but recent polls have shown that trust in the network is waning.
This is not the first time that Wallace has criticized Fox News. In 2016 he said that the network was “distorting” the news.
“I don’t think they’re intentionally trying to mislead people but I think they are so determined to be on the side of the conservative cause that they wind up out there on an ideological limb” Wallace said.
