What Channel Is Fox Network

The Fox Broadcasting Company commonly referred to as the Fox network or simply Fox is an American commercial broadcasting television network owned by the Fox Corporation. Though it is named after the Fox Film Corporation 20th Century Fox and 20th Century Fox Television it was formed in 1986 as a result of the acquisition of Metromedia assets by News Corporation.

The channel began life as a minority interest picked up by a handful of cable systems. The first primetime series to air on the fledgling network was Married… with Children a sitcom that premiered on April 5 1987. The following week Fox began to air a lineup of original programming that would continue for the next 15 years with programs such as The Simpsons In Living Color Married… with Children and Beverly Hills 90210.

In 1994 Fox struck a deal with New World Communications to trade affiliates in several markets resulting in most of Fox’s existing affiliates switching to the network (such as WNYW in New York City and KTTV in Los Angeles) as well as some New World-owned stations taking the Fox affiliation (such as WCVB in Boston and WFLA in Tampa). These moves allowed Fox to improve its coverage in key markets and gave the network a total of 194 stations by the end of 1999.

In the late 1990s Fox began to make a major push into the realm of daytime programming with the addition of Court TV to its lineup in 1997 and the launch of Fox News Channel in 1996. The network also began to produce more original programming such as the reality show Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire? and the sitcom Titus.

Today Fox is available in over 80 million households in the United States and is one of the five major broadcast networks. The network’s programming mainly consists of original first-run series along with some acquired programming and syndicated shows. Fox also airs a variety of sports programming including the NFL Major League Baseball NASCAR college football and college basketball.
