Rick Fox is a retired Canadian-Bahamian actor businessman and retired professional basketball player. He played in the NBA from 1991 to 2004 and was a three-time NBA champion winning titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000 and 2002.
Fox was born in Toronto Ontario Canada to African-American parents. His mother Dianne Gerace was an Olympic high jumper and his father Ulrich Fox was a high school basketball star who was drafted by the NBA’s Boston Celtics. Fox’s family moved to the Bahamas when he was two years old and he grew up in the island country.
Fox attended Kingsway Academy in Nassau where he played basketball and soccer. He was recruited by several American colleges but opted to play basketball for the University of North Carolina. Fox helped lead the Tar Heels to the 1991 NCAA Championship and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
After his junior year of college Fox declared for the NBA Draft and was selected by the Boston Celtics in the first round. He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1997 and won three NBA titles with the team. Fox retired from basketball in 2004 and has since appeared in a number of films and television shows.
In recent years Fox has become a prominent businessman investing in a number of startups and serving on the board of directors for several companies. He is also the owner of the esports organization Echo Fox and has been an investor and advisor in the industry.
