When it comes to iconic characters in the G.I. Joe universe there is perhaps no one more recognizable than Snake Eyes. The silent ninja has been a fan favorite for decades and many fans were excited to hear that a live-action Snake Eyes movie was in the works. According to G.I. Joe news site HissTank.com the Snake Eyes movie was originally slated to be released on digital platforms such as iTunes and Amazon Prime Video on December 15th. However plans have changed and the movie will now only be available on Blu-ray and DVD. This means that unless you have a physical copy of the movie you’ll be out of luck if you’re hoping to stream it.
The news is a bit of a bummer for fans who were looking forward to seeing the movie but it’s not entirely surprising. Given the size and scope of the project it’s likely that the movie’s release was always meant to be a physical release only. And with the holidays right around the corner it’s possible that the studio wanted to capitalize on the sales potential of a physical release.
So if you’re hoping to watch the Snake Eyes movie you’ll need to either buy or rent a copy when it’s released on December 15th. Or you could always wait and hope that it eventually ends up on a streaming service down the line. But for now it looks like you’ll need to go old-school if you want to check out the G.I. Joe ninja’s big-screen debut.
