The Fox News Channel has been accused of having a conservative bias since its inception in 1996. But is the network actually starting to lean to the left?
There has been a lot of speculation about Fox News’ political leanings ever since the network first launched. While it’s true that the network has always had a more conservative bent than other news channels there are some indications that Fox may be starting to move towards the liberal side.
One of the biggest pieces of evidence that Fox is going liberal is the network’s treatment of former President Barack Obama. During Obama’s eight years in office Fox News was highly critical of his policies and often took a negative stance towards him. However since he left office the network has taken a more positive approach towards him.
For example in February of 2017 Fox News ran a story that was critical of President Donald Trump’s decision to order a military raid in Yemen that resulted in the death of a Navy SEAL. The story included an interview with Obama in which he praised the military and called the raid a “successful operation.”
This is a stark change from the way Fox News covered Obama while he was in office. Back then the network was quick to criticize anything he did no matter how minor. But now that he’s out of office Fox seems to be trying to boost his image.
There are other signs that Fox News is becoming more liberal as well. The network has been increasingly critical of Trump and his administration. And Fox News hosts have been speaking out more against Trump’s policies.
For instance in April of 2017 Fox News host Shep Smith spoke out against Trump’s plan to build a wall along the Mexican border. Smith said that the wall was “not going to work” and that it was “not who we are as a country.”
These are just a few examples of the ways that Fox News may be becoming more liberal. Of course it’s possible that the network is just going through a phase and will eventually return to its conservative roots. Only time will tell.
