How To Use Parrot Os

Last year I decided to switch from using Windows 10 to Parrot OS. I’d never used Linux before so it was definitely a learning curve for me. I’m not going to lie there were definitely some frustrating moments. But overall I’m really happy with the switch and I think it’s a great operating system especially for security purposes. Here are some tips for those of you who are thinking about making the switch from Windows to Parrot OS.

Before you start it’s important to note that Parrot OS is based on Debian so if you’re familiar with that you’ll feel right at home. If not don’t worry it’s not too difficult to get the hang of.

The first thing you need to do is download the ISO file from the Parrot OS website. Once that’s done you’ll need to create a bootable USB drive. I used Etcher which is a really great and easy to use program.

Once you have your bootable USB drive you’ll need to boot from it. This can be a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with BIOS settings. Basically you need to go into your BIOS settings and change the boot order so that your USB drive is the first priority. Once you’ve done that save the changes and reboot your system.

Once your system reboots you should see the Parrot OS installer. Go ahead and follow the prompts and select your language timezone etc. When you get to the part where it asks you which type of installation you want I recommend selecting the “Erase disk and install Parrot” option. This will give you a clean install and make things a lot easier in the long run.

Once the installation is complete reboot your system and you should be good to go!

There are still a few things you’ll need to do after you’ve installed Parrot OS. The first thing is to update your system. This can be done by running the following command in the Terminal:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

This will update all of the software on your system to the latest versions.

The next thing you’ll want to do is install some basic software. I would recommend installing a web browser (I like Firefox) a text editor (I like Atom) and a few other basic tools. You can find most of the software you need in the Parrot OS repositories.

That’s really all there is to it! Parrot OS is a great operating system and I think you’ll find it to be a great alternative to Windows.
