Bearded dragons require a particular substrate for their habitat. This substrate is called bearded dragon carpet. Depending on how many bearded dragons you have, the carpet needs to be cleaned a few times per week. If you are able to remove the dirty part of the reptile carpet each day, you can easily disinfect it using a 9:1 solution of red wine vinegar and water.

However, you’ll need to remove the newspaper regularly and clean it if necessary. Also, shredded newspaper is too big for your beardie. This will cause problems during feeding time as it might catch and trap insects. Hence, you need to take care of impaction when choosing substrate.
If you’re unsure of how to clean bearded dragon carpet, you can use household bleach as a disinfectant. Use about 50 mL of household bleach per liter of water. Bleach must be left on the surfaces for 10-60 minutes before it becomes ineffective. Afterward, rinse it thoroughly to remove any residue. Be sure to wash the cleaning cloths and equipment separately from other household items.
