Male ostriches will mate with multiple females and will often compete with other males to do so. The males will often display their feathers and make loud noises to attract the attention of the females. Once a female chooses a mate they will usually mate for life.
The mating process begins with the male digging a nest in the ground. He will then invite the female to come and sit in the nest with him. The female will lay her eggs in the nest and the male will then fertilize them. The eggs will incubate for about 42 days before they hatch.
Once the chicks hatch the parents will care for them until they are old enough to fend for themselves. Ostriches typically live for about 30-40 years in the wild.
