Ostriches are well adapted to the harsh climate of the African deserts. They have long legs that help them to cover large distances in search of food and water and their feathers are thick and insulating providing protection from the heat and sun. Their body temperature is also regulated to cope with extreme temperatures and they can go without water for long periods of time.
