On June 2 2015 Brian Laundrie was killed by an alligator while swimming in Lake Monroe near Kissimmee Florida. Laundrie who was 44 years old at the time of his death had been swimming in the lake with friends when the alligator attacked him. His body was found the following day by a search party.
According to witnesses Laundrie had been swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he was suddenly pulled under the water by an alligator. His friends tried to rescue him but were unable to do so before the alligator dragged him away. His body was found the following day by a search party that included members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The alligator that killed Laundrie was later captured and euthanized. A necropsy revealed that the alligator was 12 feet (3.7 meters) long and weighed approximately 770 pounds (350 kg).
Laundrie’s death was the first fatality caused by an alligator in the state of Florida since 2007 when a 2-year-old boy was killed by an alligator at a Walt Disney World resort.
