Guinea pigs are social animals that need plenty of space to move around and explore. A good rule of thumb is that your guinea pig’s cage should be at least 30 inches by 36 inches with a minimum height of 18 inches. If you have more than one guinea pig you’ll need to add an additional 10-15 square feet of space for each additional guinea pig.
Your guinea pig’s cage should also have plenty of ventilation to keep the air fresh and circulate the smells. There should be a mesh cover over the cage to keep your guinea pig from escaping. The mesh should be small enough that your guinea pig can’t fit through the openings.
Your guinea pig’s cage should also have a few hiding places like tunnels or huts where your guinea pig can go to feel safe and secure. And of course there should be plenty of fresh hay and water available at all times.
