Has Juan Williams Left Fox News

Juan Williams has left Fox News after more than a decade with the network.

Williams who is also a contributor to NPR made the announcement on Tuesday night’s edition of “The Five.”

“I want to thank Fox News for 11 great years” Williams said. “I have been thinking about this for a while and I want to spend more time with my family and friends and writing.”

Williams joined Fox News in 1997 as a contributor and became a full-time employee in 2000. He has been a regular panelist on “The Five” since 2011.

“Juan has been a valued contributor to Fox News for many years and we’re sorry to see him go” Fox News president Jay Wallace said in a statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Williams rose to prominence at Fox News for his willingness to take on controversial topics and to speak his mind even when it ran counter to the network’s conservative leanings.

In 2010 he caused a stir when he said on “The O’Reilly Factor” that he gets nervous when he sees people in “Muslim garb” on airplanes.

“I mean look Bill I’m not a bigot” Williams said at the time. “You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane I got to tell you if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think you know they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims I get worried. I get nervous.”

Williams was later suspended by Fox News for his comments. He later said that he regretted making them.

In 2017 Williams made headlines again when he said on “The Five” that then-President Donald Trump was “unfit” to be president.

“I think at this point with all we have heard all we have seen you have to say he is unfit to be president” Williams said at the time.

Trump responded to Williams’ comments on Twitter calling him “very sad” and accusing him of being “a total loser.”

Despite his disagreements with the network Williams remained a fixture at Fox News appearing on programs across the network’s lineup.

Williams is the latest high-profile departure from Fox News in recent months. In January longtime anchor Shep Smith announced that he was leaving the network saying that he “couldn’t be part of a story that I know is mostly fiction.”

Smith was followed out the door by another veteran Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera who announced his departure from the network last month.

With Williams’ departure “The Five” will now be down to four co-hosts: Dana Perino Greg Gutfeld Jesse Watters and Kennedy.
