The federal government does not currently have a vaccine mandate in place for any particular vaccine including the flu vaccine. However some government offices and agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) do recommend that people get vaccinated against the flu. The CDC also recommends that people who are at high risk for complications from the flu such as young children pregnant women and people with certain chronic health conditions get vaccinated.
Additionally while the federal government does not have a vaccine mandate in place some states do have vaccine mandates for certain vaccines such as the flu vaccine. For example the state of California requires that all children attending public school get vaccinated against the flu.
Fox News has been critical of both the CDC and the state of California for their flu vaccine mandates. In an article published on the Fox News website columnist John Stossel argued that the CDC’s recommendation that everyone get vaccinated against the flu is “Orwellian” and compared it to the government’s mandate that people get vaccinated against smallpox. Stossel also argued that the state of California’s flu vaccine mandate is “unnecessary and intrusive.”
Overall it seems that Fox News does not support vaccine mandates at least not for the flu vaccine. However it is important to note that Fox News is not the only outlet that has been critical of vaccine mandates; other news outlets such as The Huffington Post and The Washington Post have also published articles critical of these mandates.
