The simple answer is no ostriches do not cry. However this does not mean that they do not feel emotion. In fact research has shown that ostriches do have a very complex range of emotions and are far from being the emotionless cold-blooded creatures that many people believe them to be.
So why don’t ostriches cry? It is thought that this is due to the fact that they have a very different anatomy to other birds. Ostriches have eyes that are almost twice the size of human eyes and they also have very small tear ducts. This combination means that they are simply not able to produce tears in the same way that other birds can.
This doesn’t mean that ostriches don’t feel emotion however. They are known to show a wide range of emotions including fear anger joy and even love. They are also very intelligent creatures and they are able to remember past experiences and learn from them.
So while ostriches may not cry in the literal sense they are certainly capable of feeling a wide range of emotions.
