According to one report a farmer in South Africa was attacked and killed by an ostrich. The farmer who was in his 60s was reportedly walking near a group of ostriches when one of the birds attacked him knocking him to the ground. The ostrich then reportedly proceeded to stomp on the man’s chest causing him to suffocate.
While it’s not entirely clear what provoked the attack it’s possible that the ostrich was defending its territory or simply saw the man as a threat. Whatever the case this tragic incident serves as a reminder that ostriches can be dangerous animals and should be treated with caution.
