Do Ostrich Stick Head In Sand

Assuming you would like a blog post discussing the idiom/concept of an ostrich sticking its head in the sand:

When most people think of an ostrich they think of a large bird that cannot fly has long legs and buries its head in the sand when it feels threatened. The latter part of this common image is actually where the idiom/concept of “sticking one’s head in the sand” comes from.

If you look up the definition of the idiom you will find that it means to refuse to face reality or acknowledge something unpleasant. In other words it is a way of avoidance. And just like the ostrich when we stick our head in the sand we are burying our head in the sand so that we do not have to see or deal with what is happening around us.

Unfortunately life does not work that way and we cannot simply ignore our problems until they go away. In some cases avoidance can actually make things worse. For example if you have a bill that you cannot afford to pay ignoring it will not make it go away. In fact it will only make the situation worse because the bill will continue to accrue late fees and penalties.

The bottom line is that we need to be proactive and face our problems head on. That is the only way to deal with them in a productive and effective manner.

Do ostrich stick their heads in the sand when they are scared?

No this is a myth.

Ostriches do not stick their heads in the sand.
