There are definitely foxes in the Amazon Rainforest! A quick Google search revealed that there are at least four different species of foxes that live in the Amazon: the Crab-eating Fox the Hoary Fox the Pampas Fox and the Red Fox.
The Crab-eating Fox (Cerdocyon thous) is the largest of the four species and is found throughout the Amazon basin. This fox is a generalist predator meaning that it will eat just about anything it can catch including crabs rodents reptiles and even fruits and vegetables.
The Hoary Fox (Lycalopex vetulus) is the second largest of the Amazonian foxes and is found in the eastern part of the Amazon basin. This fox is mostly a scavenger feeding on the carcasses of animals that have already been killed by other predators.
The Pampas Fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus) is the smallest of the Amazonian foxes and is found in the southern part of the basin. Pampas Foxes are primarily carnivorous feeding on small mammals reptiles and birds.
The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the only non-native species of fox found in the Amazon and is found in the northern and western parts of the basin. Red Foxes were introduced to the Amazon by humans and are now considered to be an invasive species. These foxes are highly adaptable and have been known to eat just about anything including fruits vegetables small mammals and even garbage.
