The life of an actor is often one of constant change and upheaval. So it’s perhaps no surprise that some actors find themselves in jobs that are a little… out of the ordinary. Take for example the actor who was once a lion tamer.
Yes you read that correctly. There was an actor who at one point in his life was a lion tamer. His name was Richard Griffiths and according to an interview he gave to The Guardian it was a job he fell into quite by accident.
Griffiths was working as a circus clown in the early 1970s when the circus’s lion tamer failed to show up for work one day. Griffiths who had experience with animals (he had once been a zookeeper) was asked to fill in. And so he found himself in the rather precarious position of being in charge of a lion.
Fortunately Griffiths had seen a lion tamer in action before and was able to replicate what he had seen. He managed to get through the performance without incident and after that he was asked to become the circus’s official lion tamer.
It’s a job that Griffiths says he enjoyed and one that he continued to do for some time. In fact it was only when the circus closed down that Griffiths finally left his job as a lion tamer and returned to acting full-time.
So there you have it: the story of an actor who at one point in his career was also a lion tamer. It just goes to show that you never know where life is going to take you.
